Course Objectives
The main objectives of this course are:
1.Introduce the manufacturing methods of nonmetalic products,
2.Teach manufacturing of ceramic products,
3.Teach shaping of glasses,
4.Teach manufacturing of polymer products,
5.Teach the principles of mold and tool design used in plastic forming,
6.Teach the fabrication of composite materials.
Course Description
Introduction. Manufacturing of Ceramic and Glass Products, Forming of Poliymers, Extrusion, Injection, Thermoforming, Blowing, Molding, Fabrication of Composites, Particulate Composites, Short and Long Fiber Composites, Laminar Composites.
Course Outcomes
Upon succesfull completion of the course, the students will be able to:
1.Become aware of the nonmetalic materials and their manufacturing methods.
2.Develop understanding of ceramic product manufacturing techniques such as sintering, hotcompaction; become familiar with presses, tools and dies used in ceramic production processes.
3.Develop understanding of glass product manufacturing techniques for sheet, tube, fiber and bottle.
4.Develop uderstanding of polymer formability and forming techniques.
5.Become familiar with machine tools, presses, tools and dies used in polymer processing.
6.Develop understanding of composite fabrication methods and composite quality control inspectiontechniques.
