Course Objectives
1. To give students the information in materials processing of forming and machining of materials.
2. To introduce the principles of machining and forming processes; machines, tools, auxiliary equipments and applications.
3. To develop an understanding of the basic calculations in forming and machining processes.
4. To give students the information in materials properties suitable for forming and machining and to introduce the enginnering materialsfor forming and machining operations.
5. To introduce the tecnological experimets for determination of formability and machinabiliy of materials
Course Description
Classifications of manufacturing processes, advantages and limitations. Design for manufacturing; selection of suitable manufacturing process. Formability of engineering materials. Bulk forming processes, sheet forming technology. Equipment for mechanical forming. Technological experimets for metal formability. Machining processes and machine tools. Economic aspect of machining. Machinabiliy of engineering materials. Non-traditional processes.
Course Outcomes
The students who pass the course:
1. Be familiarized with the principles and application of forming, machining,
2. Be familiarized with the advantages, limitations and applications of forming and machining processes,
3. Recognize the tools, equipments and machines used in mechanical forming and machining processes and select proper mechine and tools.
4. For a certain component and a certain materials, select suitable manufacturing method at design and manufacturin stages.
5. Use the principles and do the basic calculations for machining and forming.
6. Select proper process parameters in machining and forming processes.
