Course Objectives The main objectives of this course are introducing the student to: (1) morphology, geological evolution, and mineral resources of the marine basins, (2) marine geological hazards, and (3) introducing multi-disciplinary approach and necessary methods and techniques.
Course Description Marine Geology studies the geology of marine basins, including their morphology, evolution and mineral resources. Some marine basins are
characterized by geohazards such as earthquakes, volcanic activity, submarine landslides and
associated tsunamis. Marine sediments are excellent recorders of seafloor. This course will also introduce the methods and techniques with an earth-science system approach.
Course Outcomes Students who satisfy the course requirements will be equipped with knowledge on the following topics:
I. Morphology and geological evolution of seafloor
II. Mineral resources,
III. Marine geological hazards
IV. Methods and techniques of investigation used to investigate the seafloor and sedimentary records.
