PET 417E - Flow Through Porous Media

Course Objectives

1. To acquaint the students with the concepts, equations, analysis methods and tools used in reservoir engineering
2. Develop students’ ability to apply a quantitative reasoning to reservoir engineering problems,
3. Develop students’ ability to apply an integrated knowledge of math, physics, geosciences and engineering sciences to the solution of reservoir engineering problems,
4. Provide students with a background for more advanced courses in reservoir engineering.

Course Description

The course provides the students with the basic principles, concepts and equations used in reservoir engineering to solve fluid flow problems in reservoir/well systems and to predict future reservoir/well performances. Basic equations to study the effects of heterogeneity, anisotropy and well completions on well/reservoir performance are derived. An introduction to oil-water two phase flow is also provided.
