Course Objectives
1. To introduce the basic concepts of statistics.
2. Hypothesis testing of data in different categories.
3. To investigate linear regression and correlation relationships using bivariate data.
4. Introducing the variogram models and geostatistical prediction using the kriging method.
Course Description
Hypotheses, experiments and disproof, Collecting and displaying data, Introductory concepts of experimental design, Doing science responsibly and ethically, Probability and decision, Working from samples: data, populations and statistics, Normal distributions: tests for comparing the means of one and two samples, Type 1 and Type 2 error, power and sample size, Single-factor analysis of variance, Multiple comparisons after ANOVA, Two-factor analysis of variance, Important assumptions of analysis of variance, transformations and a test for equality of variances, Relationships between variables: linear correlation and linear regression, Linear regression, Introductory concepts of multivariate analysis, Introductory concepts of sequence analysis, Introductory concepts of spatial analysis.
