Course Objectives 1. To provide students with basic knowledge of the energy, petroleum and natural gas engineering,
2. To explain the fields and topics that a petroleum and natural gas engineer is concerned with,
3. To provide students with basic chemical, physical, and thermodynamic properties of oil and natural gas,
4. To expose the students to concepts and ideas about today’s issues involving the petroleum and natural gas engineering in general.
Course Description Introduction to petroleum and natural gas industry. Energy, oil and natural gas in Turkey and in the world, statistics and general knowledge. Origin, composition and fluid properties of petroleum and natural gas. Types of oil and natural gas reservoirs. Making a hole (drilling) and well completion. Production and equipment. Artificial lift. Well testing. Well stimulation. Enhanced recovery methods. Transportation of oil and natural gas. Refining and processing. Societal and environmental concerns.
Course Outcomes 1. Familiar with the basics of petroleum and natural gas engineering.
2. Awareness of petroleum, natural gas and energy statistics – the world and Turkey.
3. Acquire the basics of chemical, physical and thermodynamic properties of oil and natural gas.
4. Familiar . with the basic knowledge in exploration, drilling and production.
5. Awareness of the ethics of engineering relevant to society, health, safety, environmental issues.
