Course Objectives 1. Develop students’ ability in characterizing reservoirs by analytical thinking and reasoning, while applying the integrated knowledge of statistics and mathematics,
2. Develop students’ ability in taking the basic reservoir management decisions in the presence of uncertainty and lack of information,
Course Description Types of variables and fundamental measures of characterizing variables. Concepts of Random Function and Random Variable. Application of statistical measures to spatial phenomena, the variogram. Various types of kriging. Geostatistical simulation methods.
Course Outcomes Students who pass the course will be able to:
1. Analyze petrophysical data for reservoir characterization.
2. Apply kriging algorithms for interpolation of various reservoir properties.
3. Apply various geostatistical simulation algorithms for various reservoir properties.
4. Quantify uncertainty for various reservoir engineering related computations.
