Course Objectives
Teach the students about
1. Energy production and the role of the coal utilization in energy production
2. Clean coal technologies of coal Preparation, coking, liquidification, gasification of coals
3. Coal Combustion and control the emissions after combustion
4. Numerical Evaluation of Coal Prepartion Techniques by Theoritically and Practically
Course Description
The Energy Prospects in The World, European Union and Turkey, Coal Utilization and Politics in Energy
Production, Coal Preparation Methods, Coal quality control, homogenization and blending, Coal
Utilization in Power Generation Plants, the technologies of coking, liquidification, gasification of coals,
Combustion mechanism of coal and emissions after combustion, methods of emission reduction, carbon
dioxide sequestration, and recent advanced research on coal technologies.
Course Outcomes
Students who pass the course will be able to:
I. Follow and Evaluate the topics about Energy Prospects and Coal Policies in the World,
European Union and Turkey and the Role of Coal on Energy Production
II. Consider Various data about Coal-Fired Power Plants
III. Learn Coal Utilization on Heat and Electricity Production
IV. Learn The Future of The Clean Coal Technologies and Advanced Technologies on Coal
Gasification, liquidification coking and briquetting
V. Learn Coal Combustion and Combustion Mechanisms and Controlling the emissions after
combustion
