Course Objectives
1. To introduce the students to basic sources of the Ottoman History 2. To familiarize the students with the scientific methods of the field as well as the culture of research methods 3. To help the students evaluate the Ottoman history from a broader perspective using such interdisciplinary perspectives as history of science and technology, and social history. 4. To evaluate and locate the Ottoman History within the world history perspective. 5. To develop students ability in reading, understanding and writing in Ottoman History
Course Description
The course aims to familarize the students with the the methodology and main themes of the Ottoman History. In this context, Ottoman history will be taken up from political, social, cultural, and technological perspectives in search of the roots of today’s hot topics in the Ottoman world in order to provide students with an ability to assess the past and present in connection.
Course Outcomes
Students who succeed in this course will be able to: 1. Familiarize with the field of Ottoman historiography and historical methodology and assess the historical themes effectively. 2. Have an idea of the state philosophy, administrative, economic, social and educational properties of the Ottoman Empire 3. Understand the conditions of the multi-ethnical and multi-religious communities 4. Develop an understanding of the place of the women, children and family within the state 5. Have an understanding on the Ottoman science and technology policies and institutions 6. Develop a sense of assessing the Ottoman History along with other disciplines 7. Evaluate and locate the Ottoman History within the broader spectrum of world history
