Course Objectives • Apply energy and variational principles for the determination of deflections and internal loads in one dimensional structural elements;
• Model simple aerospace structural components using engineering theories;
• Apply Ritz Method for the approximate calculation of deflections and stresses in one-dimensional structural elements;
• Apply the finite element method in the stress analysis of aerospace structural components;
• Design a structural component of an aerospace structure with the aid of state of the art finite element techniques;
• Develop insights into buckling phenomena of aerospace thin-walled structures
Course Description Principles of structural analysis; Equations of Linear Elasticity; Stress Tensor and the Cauchy Formula; Energy and Variational Principles; Formulation of Continuum Elements; Formulation of Structural Elements and Boundary Value Problems of Elasticity; The Ritz Method and Numerical Integration; Finite Element Equilibrium Equations; Types of Structural Failure; Mathematical and numerical models for the state of stress and deformation of one, two and three dimensional aerospace structures
