Course Objectives
To teach the basic principles of microbiology experimentally
Course Description
Basic microbiology laboratory experiments at undergraduate level: Safety rules; guidelines for the preparation of laboratory reports; sterilization and preparation of culture media; methods for pure culture isolation; the bacterial growth curve: the role of temperature; the effects of pH and osmotic pressure on microbial growth; quantitative determination of bacterial numbers; staining bacteria; endospores and spore staining; screening of microorganisms for antibiotic and heavy metal resistances by paper disc-agar diffusion assay; identification of bacteria through biochemical testing.
