Course Objectives 1. What are the chemical and three dimensional structures of biological molecules and how do their properties vary with these structures.
2. How are biological molecules and assemblies synthesized?
Course Description Life and molecules, amino acids, protein structure and function, enzymes and the basis of enzyme kinetics, enzymatic catalysis mechanisms, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, structure and functions of membranes, DNA as genetic material, Purification of biomolecules.
Course Outcomes Students who pass the course will be able to:
I. Define the chemical formula of basic biological molecules (protein, carbohydrate, lipid and nucleic acids)
II. Understand the physical and chemical properties of biological molecules
III. Understand the relation between structure and function of biomolecules
IV. Purify biomolecules
How biomolecules interact to each other
