Course Objectives
The aim of this course is to investigate Modernity by focusing on its historical development, its manifestations in the realm of politics, social life and the transformations it induces in the formation of subjectivity and identity.
Course Description
The course adopts a transdisciplinary approach and studies Modernity by bringing the insights of political thought, history, the arts, architecture, music and literature.
Course Outcomes
Students who successfully complete the course students
1. Understand the concept of modernity and its historical development
2. Learn the emergence of the modern subject
3. Understand the Enlightenment and the birth of the social sciences
4. Understand rights, citizenship and the state in modernity
5. Learn the Industrial Revolution, emergence of capitalism and class conflict in modernity
6. Recognize the transformation of gender and racial relations and struggle for equality
