Course Objectives 1. Learning the concepts of the modern physics.
2. Building the connection between modern physics and quantum mechanics and learning the application of basic quantum mechanics problems.
3. Building the connection between quantum mechanics and many particle systems, such as statistical physics.
Course Description Relativity, Particle Properties of Waves, Wave Properties of Particles, Atomic Structure, Quantum Mechanics, Quantum Theory of the Hydrogen Atom, Many-Electron Atoms, Molecules, Statistical Mechanics
Course Outcomes Students who pass the course will be able to gain basic knowledge about:
I. Getting the knowledge of Relativity Theory and using its concepts
II. Explanation of the Particle – Wave duality principle, and radiation emitted by transitions in atoms.
III. Concepts of atom and atomic structure
IV. Solving problems using the Heisenberg uncertainty principle and the Bohr atom model
V. Principles of the Hydrogen Atom
VI. Learning the Angular momentum and spin momentum algebra
VII. Solving the 1-dimensional Schrödinger Equation
VIII. Solving the 3-dimensional Schrödinger Equation
IX. Statistical Mechanics fundamental

Required Facilities Some problems of the home works may require the use of computer programs for numerical solution or visual modeling.
