Course Objectives The purpose of this course is to give fundamentals of probability and statistics
which are used in estimation theory and its applications.
Course Description Basic probability, axioms and elementary theorems, conditional
probability, rule of Bayes; random variables and distributions, Binomial,
Poisson and Gaussian distributions, student’s t-distribution; mean and
variance of a probability distribution. Continuous random variables,
discrete random variables, joint probability density functions.
Descriptive statistics, sampling theory, estimation theory,
test of hypothesis and significance, claims, tests, and conclusions.
Course Outcomes The students passing the course will be able to
1. Calculate probability of an outcome in a random experiment
2. Do statistical tests and analyzes
3. Simulate a stochastic analysis
