Course Coordinator Meltem Güngörmez
Course Objectives 1. Re-examining the various problems we have previously attempted to solve with Newtonian Mechanics by Lagrangian formalism
2. To further improve our mathematical background while trying to understand this formalism
3. 3. To understand this formalism by learning how to look at the problems we encounter in advanced subjects in physics
Course Description Generalized coordinats, Constraints, Lagrangian Formalism, Euler-Lagrange Equations, Variation (Hamilton) Principle, Noether-Symmetry Principle, Hamilton Equations, Liouville Theorem, Canonical Transformations, Hamilton-Jacobi Equation
Course Outcomes Students completing this course will be able to:
I. A New Look at Newtonian Physics
II. Create a broader and more robust mathematical background when learning new formalism
III. Ability to look for a larger perpescussion in advanced physics subjects
Pre-requisite(s) FIZ 284 or FIZ 284E MIN DD
