ITB 020E - Formations of Modernity

Course Objectives

This course aims to provide students with a general understanding of the social and cultural formation of modernity as a historical process.

Course Description

Focusing on the historical development of modernity in Europe since the 15th century, we will examine issues like the development of the modern subject, utopian and dystopian visions of modernity, the transformation of everyday life in modern metropolises since the 19th century, and so forth. The course will also address issues concerning the contemporary experience of global late-modernity in big cities including Istanbul.
