Course Objectives 1. To teach the basic concepts and principles of organic chemistry
2. To improve the ability of students to solve organic chemical problems
3. Provide an understanding of the chemical background of molecular biology
Course Description Atomic and molecular orbitals, hybridization, molecular geometry, conformation, stereochemistry, resonance and inductive effect, acid and base, dipole moment, saturated hydrocarbons (alkane, cycloalkane), unsaturated hydrocarbons (alkene, alkyne), alcohols and ethers, aldehydes and ketones, amines, carboxylic acids and derivatives, aromatic compounds, radicals, macromolecules, important reactions of organic molecules, catalysis
Course Outcomes Students who pass the course aquire a knowledge of:
I. atomic and molecular orbitals, hybridization
II. molecular geometry, conformation, sterechemistry
III. types of organic compounds (alkane, alkene, alkyne, alcohol, ether, aldehyde, ketone, amine, carboxylic acid, aromatic compounds)
IV. acid-base reactions
V. radicals
VI. macromolecules
VII. important reactions of organic molecules
VIII. catalysis in chemistry and biochemistry
