Course Objectives
The course aims to teach basic algebra needed by the math majors.
Course Description
The course covers basics of group and ring theory. These include groups, subgroups, quotient groups, morphisms of groups, isomorphisms, isomorphism theorems, rings, ideals, quotient rings, morphisms, isomorphisms and isomorphism theorems. Time permitting, we will also consider polynomial rings, Groebner bases, and Buchberger algorithms.
Course Outcomes
Those students who successfully finished this course will be able to use and apply basic algebraic structures such as groups and rings.
