Course Objectives
1. To inform students about the historical development of Mathematics from Prehistoric ages up to now.
2. To introduce the famous mathematicians who had important roles in the development of mathematics
Course Description
Mathematics in the Prehistoric Age, Early Number Systems and Symbols, Mathematics in Early Civilizations like Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, Ancient and Hellenistic Periods of Greek Mathematics, Mathematics in Medieval Islamic World, European Mathematics in Medieval and Renaissance Periods, Classical and Modern Periods of Mathematics, History of Turkish Mathematics in the 18th and 19th Centuries.
Course Outcomes
I. Have knowledge about the historical development of Mathematics,
II. Recognize the distinction between formal and intuitive Mathematics,
III. Have a good general idea about the fundamental Mathematical arguments that were developed centuries ago and are still of central importance today,
IV. Have knowledge about the historical evolution of some of the major concepts of Modern Mathematics
