MAT 202E - Numerical Methods

Course Objectives

1. To understand the language, logic, and math of numerical methods as used in engineering and science.
2. To learn how numerical analyses can be applied to a wide range of problems of importance in science and industy.
3. To improve the programming skills of the students.

Course Description

Accuracy estimation in numerical methods and error propagation. Root finding for system of nonlinear equations. Newton's and Newton-Raphson's Methods. Solution methods for system of linear equations. Interpolation, extrapolation, and curve fitting. Numerical differentiation/ integration. Numerical solutions of ordinary differential equations. Finite Differences: forward, backward, and central differences. Runge-Kutta Methods.
