MAT 202E - Numerical Methods

Course Objectives

• To understand the language, logic, and math of numerical methods as used in engineering and science.
• To learn how numerical analyses can be applied to a wide range of problems of importance in science, industry, and society.
• To improve the programming skills of the students.

Course Description

Accuracy estimation in numerical methods and error propagation. Root finding for system of nonlinear equations; Newton's and Newton-Raphson's Methods. Solution methods for system of linear equations. Interpolation, extrapolation, and curve fitting. Numerical differentiation integration. Numerical solutions of ordinary differential equations. Finite Differences: forward, backward, and central differences. Runge-Kutta Methods.
