Course Objectives 1. to learn about basic principles of microbiology both theoretically and experimentally
2. to obtain information on the structure, function, growth and genetic characteristics of microorganisms, human-microorganism relationships, and applied microbiology
Course Description Structure of microorganisms, functions, bacterial and viral growth, classification, physiology, metabolism and genetics, identification and control of microorganisms, microorganism-environment interactions, microbial pathogenesis and immunology, human-microorganism interactions.
Course Outcomes Students who pass the course will be able to:
I. Learn the basic concepts of microbiology such as structure and function of microorganisms
II. Understand the principles of sterilization, disinfection and microbial growth
III. Understand the principles of bacterial classification
IV. Learn the basics of microbial physiology, genetics and metabolism
V. Learn about identification and control of microorganisms
VI. Learn the concepts of microbial pathogenesis and immunology
VII. Grasp microorganism-environment relationships
VIII. Learn about basic principles of applied microbiology with examples
