Course Objectives 1. To introduce students to the basics of scientific computing concepts.
2. To develop problem solving skills.
3. To develop algorithm building skills.
4. To teach students how to use problem solving in scientific and engineering calculations.
5. To teach students to print their results and prepare written reports.
Course Description This course provides students the basic knowledge of MATLAB program, which has a wide range of applications for solving scientific and engineering problems, and provides the ability to use scripting language.
Course Outcomes Student, who passed the course satisfactorily can
1. Learn the knowledge on contemporary issues of engineering problems and relate them with the problem solvers
2. Learn the syntax
3. Analyze a problem and develop an algorithm
4. Test, debug, and verify the program
5. Understand and do both pre and post-processing of raw data (input) and produced data (output) for scientific and engineering problems
6. Solve simple numerical problems by using built-in and script functions
7. Prepare scientific report
Pre-requisite(s) None
Required Facilities A computer and installed MATLAB program on it. ITU BIDB (http://www.bidb.itu.edu.tr) provides MATLAB licence for students.
