GIT 601E - Geo-Data Policy
Course Objectives
Various departments in government or individuals maintain many layers of GIS data. These layers of information should be available for public access in several different ways. The purpose of geo-data policy is mainly to address the issues related to GIS data access, product availability, distribution methods, product and service costs. In this way, internet based data access, standard digital data, and hard copy mapping policies shall be examined for special data preparation, data conversion, data analysis, and application development.

Institutional requirements and developing policies accordingly. The legislation principles for GIS data storage, sharing and presentation. Technical and institutional requirements for national spatial data infrastructure. Central and local government policies to provide the spatial data. Data privacy. Metadata production policies. Political requirements for corporate structuring of GIS
