GIT 524E - Environmental GIS
Course Objectives
The use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in environmental management is applied in many areas that vary according to environmental conditions. Since the environment is a subject that contains information related to both natural and artificial developments, and includes many geographical functions together, GIS is one of the most intensively used fields. In environmental GIS, the decision-making process can develop an environmental strategy with the help of spatial data and management tools. The aim of the course is to examine the role and importance of GIS in solving and modeling environmental problems.
Course Description
The role and importance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in environmental applications, as well as GIS applications in environmental data management and data models, will be discussed. The course will cover spatial natural resource management and data management in hydrological and environmental pollution topics. It will also address the analysis of comparative land cover changes and techniques to be used in mapping environmental risk, along with the role of GIS in environmental planning and policies.
