Course Objectives
Emphasizing the importance of mathematical representation to explain space dimensions and relations of spatial objects. • Defining mathematical methods for managing spatial objects and basic geometrical behaviours of entities. • In this case, the main GIS functions in the computer environment are provided with a mathematical background.
Course Description
Introduction to space geometry. Logic. Vector algebra. Main coordinate systems and transformations. Projection systems. Relations, functions, and linear models. Matrix algebra. Venn diagrams. Boolean algebra and operations. Topology concept. The graph theory, paths and cycles, connectivity. Topological views. Flows in networks. Map algebra. Raster-based calculations.
Course Outcomes
M.Sc. students who complete this course gain knowledge, skills, and competencies in the following subjects: i. Developing and intensifying knowledge in the related program’s area, based on the competency at the undergraduate level ii. Grasping the inter-disciplinary interaction related to one’s area iii. The ability to use the expert-level theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in the area iv. Interpreting and forming new types of knowledge by combining knowledge from the area with expertise from various other disciplines. Solving the problems faced in the area by making use of the research methods vi. Paying regard to social, scientific, cultural, and ethical values during the collecting, interpreting, practicing, and announcing processes of the area-related data, and the ability to teach these values to others
