Course Objectives
To understand the fundamental concepts, methods, and approaches of spatial data analysis and to apply appropriate analysis techniques to different types of problems.
To effectively use vector- and raster-based spatial analysis methods (e.g., querying, overlay, proximity, surface, and network analyses).
To visualize and interpret analysis results through maps, graphs, and thematic representations, and integrate them into decision-making processes.
To develop practical solutions for real-world problems by utilizing spatial analysis tools and software.
Course Description
This course covers the structure and characteristics of spatial data and the principles of using vector and raster data models. Within the framework of spatial analysis, methods for spatial querying, modeling, and decision support are addressed. Surface and grid analyses, geostatistical analyses, vector overlay and geometric operations, and network analyses are examined through practical applications. In addition, visualization and generalization methods, recent developments, and emerging approaches in spatial analysis are discussed.
Course Outcomes
M.Sc. students who successfully pass this course gain knowledge, skill and competency in the
following subjects;
i. Grasping the inter-disciplinary interaction related to one’s area
ii. The ability to use the expert-level theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in the area
iii. Interpreting and forming new types of knowledge by combining the knowledge from the
area and the knowledge from various other disciplines
iv. Solving the problems faced in the area by making use of the research methods
v. Developing new strategic approaches to solve the unforeseen and complex problems
arising in the practical processes of one’s area and coming up with solutions while taking
responsibility
vi. Using the computer software together with the information and communication
technologies efficiently and according to the needs of the area
vii. Paying regard to social, scientific, cultural and ethical values during the collecting,
interpreting, practicing and announcing processes of the area related data and the ability
to teach these values to others
viii. Developing strategy, policy and application plans concerning the subjects related to the
area and the ability to evaluate the end results of these plans within the frame of quality
processes
ix. Using the knowledge and the skills for problem solving and/or application (which are
processed within the area) in inter-disciplinary studie
