Course Objectives
This course is an introduction to scientific and engineering computing in engineering and science through numerical methods and computer applications. The intention of the course is to provide students with state of the art computational tools for the analysis of basic mathematical and engineering problems. The objectives of the course are such that students get familiarized with the fundamentals of scientific computing concepts to develop problem solving skills, construct algorithms and learn scientific and engineering calculations. Students will also be trained to visualize their results and prepare written reports.
Course Description
Introduction to scientific and engineering computing. Use of softwares such as MATLAB is introduced in the course to present the students with the tools to start writing algorithms and do practical applications with them.
Course Outcomes
a) Acquiring the knowledge on contemporary issues of engineering problems and relating them to the problem solvers
b) Learning the syntax
c) Analyzing a problem and developing an algorithm
d) Testing, debugging, and verifying the program
e) Understanding and extracting both pre- and post-processing of raw data (input) and producing data (output) for scientific and engineering problems
f) Solving simple numerical problems by using built-in and script functions
g) Preparing scientific reports
