Course Objectives The main goal of this course is to
1. emphasize the importance of oil spills as a part of the Ocean Engineering curriculum,
2. introdue oil spill trajectory and fate models,
3. create a foundation for preparing oil spill contingency and intervention plans,
4. raise awareness of cleanup and protection measures at oilspill areas
Course Description Modeling of trajectory and fate of oil spills. Oil spill movement in coastal seas. Evolution of oil trajectory, fate and impact assessment models. Preparing for oil spills, contingency planning and in-situ countermeasures. Experimental and laboratory analysis. Shoreline protection and cleanup. Risk assessment. Field experiments.Remote sensing. Cleanup measures. Case studies..
