Course Objectives
1. Assessment of the existing structures,
2. Essentials of repairing and improving, methods of repair,
3. Explanations of strengthening methods and principals of structures by examples
Course Description
Repair and strengthening. Assessment and classification of damage. Seismic damage types. Emergency measures for temporary protection. Repair and strengthening materials. Repair and strengthening by using shotcrete, epoxy resin, steel plates and FRP. Corrosion damage and repair. Design of retrofitting members, jacketing, additional shear walls, strengthening of foundations. Damage assessment, evaluation, repair and strengthening of masonry structures. Innovative structural retrofitting methods.
Course Outcomes
Students that complete the course with success, will acquire the following qualities:
1. Students have comprehensive knowledge about current engineering techniques and methods as well as their limitations.
2. Students complement and apply the knowledge with scientific methods using uncertain, limited, or incomplete data; can gather and combine knowledge from different disciplines.
3. Students are aware of the new and developing applications of the profession; examine and learn them when needed.
4. Students define and formulate problems related to the field, develop methods, and apply innovative methods for their solutions.
5. Students develop new and/or original ideas and methods; design complex systems or processes and develop innovative/alternative solutions in their designs.
6. Students know the social, environmental, health, safety, and legal aspects of engineering applications, project management, and business life applications, and is aware of the constraints they impose on engineering applications.
