GAM 520E - Guided Research
Course Objectives
1. Read, analyze and interpret significant scholarly publications that could be regarded as fundamental for gaining expertise in a research area of interest or recent pioneering work that serves to expand the boundaries of the research area of interest.
2. Acquire background, practical and theoretical knowledge and skills in the research area.
3. Discuss the acquired background, knowledge, technical and theoretical skills with the supervising faculty member to explore the outer limits of the research area.
4. Summarize the work carried out in the form of technical term report.
5. Express the acquired background, knowledge, technical and theoretical skills as well as foreseeable potential research work in own words in the form of a concise presentation.
Course Description
Under the supervision of a faculty member, in weekly meetings, the investigation of scholarly publications that are in a research area of interest to the faculty member and recommended by the faculty member; The analysis of these publications as well as potential directions of research for the future are to be shared with the faculty member in these meetings; Every 3-4 weeks, a concise presentation of the acquired knowledge and background, significant results in the research area as well as potential directions of research is to be made to the supervising faculty member; A term report that summarizes the work carried out during the semester is to be submitted to the supervising faculty member and the department responsible from the program
