Course Objectives

1. To discuss urban pattern systems which focus on analytic and critical reading of the city
2. To introduce the relations of urban physical and social structure and its pattern
3. To discuss the urban pattern elements in terms of their design principles with selected samples

Course Description

Elements of urban pattern systems. Pattern analysis. Evaluation of urban pattern in historical development process. Organic and inorganic settlement pattern. Man-environment interaction. Perception and symbolism. Public places. Form characteristics. Urban morphology. Urban typology. Urban identity and image. Urban dualities. Concept of orientation, segregation, homogenity, order and diversity in urban pattern system.
