MKM 510E - Design and Application of Industrial Electronic Systems

Course Objectives

There will be improvements in production in terms of accuracy, speed, and economics with the control of the equipments used in industrial environments. The methods for the design of electronic circuits to achieve the above goals, characteristic behaviors of elements in these electronic circuits, and industrial application examples are planned to be given in this course.

Course Description

Power electronic semiconductor devices: power diode, thyristor, triac, Gate Turn-Off Thyristor (GTO), Mos Controlled Thyristor (MCT), power MOSFET, power transistor, Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT), Integrated Gate Commutated Thyristor (IGCT). Power electronic circuits: Rectifiers, AC and DC choppers, inverters. Triggering circuits for controlled semiconductor devices: signal generators, timers, pulse width modulators, optocouplers, pulse transformers, operational amplifiers, differential amplifiers, comparators, relays. Circuit layout, grounding, common mode noise, noise reduction techniques. Low-pass, high-pass, bandpass, wideband and notch filters. Signal conditioning circuits: Isolation, amplifying and scaling operations. Applications: Regulated linear power supplies, switched mode power supplies, battery chargers, DC motor control circuits, variable frequency drives for AC motors, arc welding circuits, induction heating.
