Course Objectives

1. To give students understanding and problem-solving ability in the topics listed.
2. To help students understand the scientific background for geotechnical earthquake designs.
3. To provide students analytical and numerical tools for earthquake resistant design thrpugh the codes and site specific analyses.

Course Description

Physics of earthquakes, basic seismology, seismic waves, strong ground motion and attenuation, deterministic and probabilistic seismic hazard analysis, nonlinear site response analysis, response spectra, liquefaction, seismic behavior of slopes and retaining walls.
