Course Objectives
The objectives of this course are to:
- introduce methods of basics vibration measurement,
- explain the fundamentals of signal processing and vibration analysis,
- teach the theory behind “measuring” Frequency Response Functions (FRFs),
- introduce various methods of estimating modal parameters from measured FRFs.
- provide practical skills to use related hardware and software.
Course Description
Introduction to the fundamentals of vibration analysis and modal testing. Transducers and measurement chain, acquisition of vibration signals. Estimation of Frequency Response Functions (FRF). Extraction of modal parameters from FRFs. Applications of modal testing.
Course Outcomes
At the end of the course, students will gain the following knowledge and skills:
- Basic knowledge about transducers, measurement chain and signal processing.
- To have a good knowledge on the fundamental theory behind Frequency Response Functions.
- Ability to interpret Frequency Response Functions.
- Enable to extract natural frequencies, damping values and mode shapes of structures from measured FRFs.
- Aware of various application areas of modal testing including structural modification and comparison of the theoretical and experimental models.
