Course Objectives
1).To explain the required basic properties of characterization of ceramics during and after processing.
2) To teach basic powder properties and characterization techniques
3) To explain the concepts of density and porosity, and density measurement techniques
4) To explain the microscopic techniques in ceramic characterization
5) To teach other techniques in characterization of ceramics: diffraction techniques, non-destructive testing, chemical and compositional analysis, basic mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical and magnetic properties and characterization, corrosion of ceramics, alternative methods in characterization of advanced ceramics.
Course Description
Classification of ceramic materials characterization in terms of during and after processing. Basic powder properties and characterization techniques. Definitions of density and porosity and measurement techniques. Microscopic techniques in ceramic characterization. The other techniques in characterization of ceramics: diffraction techniques, non-destructive testing, chemical and compositional analysis, basic mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical and magnetic properties and characterization, corrosion of ceramics, alternative methods in characterization of advanced ceramics.
Course Outcomes
Graduate students who pass the course will be able to:
1) Learn the required basic properties of characterization of ceramics during and after processing
2) Understand basic powder properties and characterization techniques
3) Learn the concepts of density and porosity, and density measurement techniques
4) Have an opinion on different microscopic techniques used in ceramic characterization
5) Learn other techniques in characterization of ceramics: diffraction techniques, non-destructive testing, chemical and compositional analysis, basic mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical and magnetic properties and characterization, corrosion of ceramics, alternative methods in characterization of advanced ceramics.
