PST 501E - Introduction to Polymer Engineering
Course Objectives
1. Develop an understanding of basic concepts in polymer science and engineering
2. Introduce basics of Compounding and Property Modification
3. Introduce basic material properties (ie physical, thermal, rheological, or mechanical) that affect structure-property relationships during and after processing of polymers.
4. Develop an understanding of polymer processing methods and structure development.
5. Basic understanding of the properties of major polymer groups as well as elements of material selection and part design
Course Description
Polymer Engineering is an interdisciplinary field combining the principles of Polymer and Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Industrial Design in order to study the structure property relationships in Polymeric products. The basic properties of polymers, Property modification, Polymer processing methods, The effect of processing methods on structure development, Part design, Material and process selection based on these information are the main topics of this branch
