Course Objectives
1. To understand the relationships between vehicle design parameters and vehicle properties.
2. To give students vehicle design basics, processes, stages and optimization methods using a vehicle model.
Course Description
Automotive engineering development; design plan, platforms, concept design and styling process; major requirements in vehicle design; vehicle body design; vehicle properties and vehicle parameters; performance and active safety; vehicle handling; occupant accommodation; comfort, human factors and suspension system design; crashworthiness and occupant protection; conflicting goals and resolution methods; mathematical modeling of vehicle design and optimization.
Course Outcomes
1. Learn historical development and evolution of automobiles and their properties; gain basic knowledge on concept design considering the future trends.
2. Learn the relationship between vehicle properties and vehicle design parameters, including detailed knowledge on vehicle properties.
3. Learn conflicting goals in vehicle design and available resolution methods.
4. Learn how to build and use matematical models for vehicle design optimization.
