Course Objectives The main objectives of this course are
• to improve the basic information on theoretical and applied Acoustics,
• to introduce mathematical models and solution methods those are used in the study of acoustical systems,
• to provide acoustic information and evaluation methods that will be required by the designer.
Course Description The two dimensional wave equation. The acoustic wave equation and simple solutions. Sound transmission phenomena. Absorption and attenuation of sound in fluids. Radiation and reception of acoustic waves. Resonators, ducts and filters.
Course Outcomes Students who complete this course successfully gain,
i. fundamental knowledge on the theoretical principles of acoustics,
ii. ability to identify of the acoustic problems encountered in practice,
iii. knowledge on the methods, application areas and application limits used in the study of acoustics,
iv. ability to obtain the physical model from real system and to generate the mathematical model from physical model,
v. experience on the simulation of the mathematical model and evaluation of the results,
vi. knowledge of the acoustic problems and solution techniques encountered in machines
