ELK 510 - Finite Element Method for Electrical Engineers

Course Objectives

The aim of this course is
1. To teach a numerical method such as finite element method for computer aided design and analysis works,
2. To create an environment for using and developing of mathematical, electromagnetic fields, basic electrical engineering, and computer knowledge,
3. To teach analogies and differences among the analytical, analogue and numerical methods,
4. To use due to develop the finite element method and their studies.

Course Description

Classification of electromagnetic field problems, types of second order linear partial differential equations, types of boundary conditions, initial and boundary value problems, methods for electromagnetic field analysis and Finite Element Method. Variational methods, Rayleigh-Ritz and Galerkin methods, computations of Laplace and Poisson types electrical and magnetic field problems using finite element method, axially symmetrical problems, time dependent problems, numerical solution of finite element equations.
