Course Objectives To provide the required theoretical framework for the design of personal, mobile or portable communication systems with digital modulation techniques in the 30MHz – 3GHz frequency band.
To acquire knowledge about evolution of wireless communication systems
To understand and to assess the performance criteria for the mobile and personal communication systems
Course Description Introduction, mobile radio propagation aspects, concepts of cellular design, radio resource management, trunking theory and system design fundamentals, mobility management including handoff issues, multiple access techniques (FDMA/TDMA/CDMA/OFDMA), wireless networking, evolution of mobile communication systems: 2G/3G/4G, wireless local area networks, cognitive networks.
Course Outcomes M.Sc./Ph.D. students who successfully pass this course gain knowledge, skill and competency in the following subjects;

I. Components of cellular communication systems and their corresponding functions
II. Determination of system performance criteria and assessment
III. Radio resource management in cellular communication systems
IV. Evolution f communication systems
V. Properties and design of cognitive networks
