Course Objectives 1-Examination of properties of the electromagnetic waveguides which are used in telecommunications systems as a point to point communication channel, within a general framework.
2- To obtain various types of solutions of boundary value problems for electromagnetic waveguides using analytical and numerical methods.
3-To design microwave components using waveguides
Course Description Introduction: Aim and scope of the course, basic concepts. Green’s functions representations. Uniform waveguides with conducting boundaries. Non-uniform waveguides. Dispersive and non-linear effects. Discontinuities in waveguides: mathematical models, numerical techniques and equivalent microwave network representations. Periodicaly loaded waveguides.
Course Outcomes M.Sc./Ph.D. students who successfully pass this course gain knowledge, skill and competency in the following subjects;
1. Design of rectangular and circular waveguides
2. Analysis of discontinuities in waveguides
3. Solution of eigenvalue equations for waveguides
4. Determination of Brilliouin diagrams for periodic structures
5. Design of periodically loaded waveguides
