MBL 609E - Theory and Methods of Shape Computation in Design
Course Objectives
To introduce key research problems in shape computation in the area of computer aided design with reference to seminal texts on its theory and implementation
To have students question the link between shape computation and creativity in computer aided design processes
To have students acquire the basic theoretical and practical knowledge of shapes, part relations, rule applications, algebras, weights and part detection methods
To enable students to propose a basic implementation to a problem in the subject matter
Course Description
Issues and problems in shape computation in design; phenomenological approaches to mathematics (of shapes); part-whole relations of shapes; part detection problem in shape computation; shape and weight algebras; shape computation based on intrinsic properties of shapes.
