Course Objectives
Building up the professional basis for sound decision making in choosing appropriate interventions to cultural heritage by introducing international rules and regulations and up to date technology concerning preservation
Education of conservation staff (architects, engineers, planners, chemists) competent in guiding and supervision of work on site
Course Description
International charters and national regulations provide guidelines and build up the framework for restoration works. Architects and engineers need to be well informed about traditional techniques and appropriate modern technologies which can be applied to preservation of historic buildings. Non-destructive testing is an important tool for inspection of monuments. Several case studies exemplifying methods and techniques of conservation are presented. Being an important issue for Turkey, problems related to conservation in archaeological sites is discussed with reference to preservation of World Heritage Sites and new trends in the world.
