PST 609E - Biopolymers

Course Objectives

To provide students with basic knowledge on biopolymers synthesis and applications.

To help students to develop skills in scientific literature search.

To train students to apply their basic engineering knowledge to bioprocess.

To provide experience in oral and written communication.

Course Description

Protein chemistry; enzyme chemistry; synspecific polymers for biomaterials applications; immobilization of proteins; production of biodegradable polymers; synthesis of polymer matrixes for chromatographic separation; examples from biopolymers: polycaprolactone, suberin, poly(hydroxy alkanoate), chitin, water-soluble chitosan; discussion for biotechnological applications.
