Course Objectives
The objectives of this course are;
1.To introduce factors pertaining to energy efficiency and climatic comfort in landscape design
2.To introduce design parameters and innovations with regards to increasing energy efficiency and climatic comfort
3.To increase awareness about the effects of global warming on human living conditions
Course Description
Climate, energy and energy sources; Introduction of natural and man made factors that are effective on climatic conditions (solar radiation and wind, temperature and humidity of air); The relationship between design variables for landscaping and micro-climate; consideration of landscape elements as design parameters for bioclimatic comfort and energy conservation; use of renewable energy sources in landscape design; spatial dimensions of creating energy networks in landscapes; the role of plan materials in energy efficient landscape design; components of energy efficient design (materials and furnishing); Roof gardens and vertical gardens; The role of landscape design in green certification; Urban landscapes and water management; Management of energy and microclimate factors in landscapes; Case studies.
Course Outcomes
Graduate students who successfully pass this course gain the following knowledge, skills and proficiencies
1.Comprehensive knowledge on climate, energy, and use of renewable energy sources
2.Ability to recognize the role of landscape design in creating microclimate and increasing quality of life
3.Ability to integrate renewable energy sources in to design
4. Comprehensive knowledge on the latest state of the art and technology regarding climate comfort and energy efficiency
5. Comprehensive knowledge on management of landscapes with regards to climate and energy
