GEM 615 - Vibration of Floating Structures

Course Objectives

1.To understand the key concepts and principles of structural dynamics, to transform dynamic engineering problems into representative models, which are realistic enough and suitable for mathematical treatment
2.To perform linear dynamic analysis of mechanical systems in a systematic way, to study vibration of continuous structural systems, like beams and plates, and understand their dynamic behavior
3.To study alternative solution approaches for dynamic structural analysis and learn to apply on proper type of problems, to evaluate dynamic performance of mechanical systems by analyzing the obtained numerical results
4.To understand the effect of fluid interaction on dynamic behavior of structures, to model dynamic fluid-structure systems
5.To compute the wave loads acting on floating structures, to perform vibration analysis of floating structures
6.To appreciate the importance of numerical approximations for engineering computations, to improve programming skills for scientific and engineering computation
