JFM 508E - Advanced Seismology
Course Objectives
1.Provide an extensive theoretical background on seismic wave propagation.
2.Introduce the key seismological studies about investigation of the earth’s internal structure.
3.Provide knowledge in some of contemporary seismological research subjects, methods and applications.
4.Establish a link between the theory and numerical methods of observational seismology for the purpose of analyzing and interpreting the seismological data.
Course Description
Seismic waves, body waves and ray theory, plane wave reflection and transmisson coefficients, surface waves, dispersion, free oscillations of the Earth, seismic waves in a spherical earth, seismic, anisotropy, attenuation and synthetic seismograms
