Course Objectives
• Knowledge of basic concepts of genetics and molecular biology.
• Knowledge of DNA and RNA sequencing data analyses.
• To be able to implement public algorithms using public genomic data.
• Skills to read, criticize, and utilize research papers.
• Skills to develop a research paper.
Course Description
Basic concepts of molecular biology and genomics will be presented with interactive in-class lectures. Students will be introduced to fundamental tools and algorithms for sequencing data analysis in common and rare diseases. Major resources such as disease and variant databases will be explained with examples. Students will also practice developing a research paper on an actual state-of-the art research problem. Finally, students will perform critical paper reading and paper presenting for selected research problem.
